Weber River Project
Description
Flowing from the high elevations of the Uinta mountains, through the agricultural lands and wildlife habitats of western Summit County, and finally to the Great Salt Lake, the 125 mile long Weber River is a dominant feature and invaluable resource in Summit County.
Recognizing the critical importance of maintaining the high water quality, wildlife habitats, scenic resources and recreational opportunities found along this river, the Summit Land Conservancy is working to protect the river-front property along the Weber.
79% of the Weber river watershed is private property, and 60 percent is in range & agricultural use. Protecting the private lands along this river, therefore, is critical to maintaining wildlife habitat and water quality.
The protection of the 42 acre Fawcett Ranch set an important precedent for conservation of the Weber River in Summit County. Fundraising is underway for the Sargent property and Pyper Tracy Ranch.

Weber River Facts
|
- 2,500 square mile watershed
|
- Elevation varies from 4,200’ at the Great Salt Lake to almost 12,000’ in the Uinta Mountains

- Begins in Summit County, in the NW of the Uinta Mountains near Reids Peak (11,708’), flows west to Oakley, then flows northwest to the Great Salt Lake
|
- 1/2 of the Weber is in Summit County, 1/4 in Morgan County and 1/4 in Weber County
|
- The Weber River Basin was formed by alluvial deposits from Lake Bonneville
|
- Two reservoirs on the Weber (Echo and Rockport), and 5 on its tributaries (Pineview, Causey, East Canyon, Lost Creek, and Smith and Morehouse)
|
- Fish found in the Weber include brook trout, brown trout, cutthroat trout, rainbow trout and mountain whitefish
