The Summit Land Conservancy has numerous volunteer opportunities available to individuals and groups of all ages, interests and abilities. Below is a list of currently available opportunities, including general job descriptions and time commitments. We are eager to engage the community in our efforts to protect Summit County’s remaining open spaces, and will gladly work with you to create opportunities that meet our mutual interests, schedules and talents. Thank you for your support!
Adopt an Easement: 1hr every 2 wks
Being a small organization, the Summit Land Conservancy relies on the help of volunteers to monitor our protected lands. You can make a valuable contribution by helping ensure that local open space is permanently protected and the terms of the conservation easement are enforced. Volunteers visit the property of their choosing on a bimonthly basis, and report on the condition of the property to the Summit Land Conservancy.

Program Volunteers

Program volunteers contribute to the Summit Land Conservancy’s ongoing conservation, outreach, and fundraising programs.
1% for Open Space Program: ≤ 2hrs/wk
This fundraising program allows local businesses to support the permanent protection of Park City and Summit County open space by adding a small donation to their customers’ purchases. The donation is always voluntary. In some cases, the donation is 1% of the purchase price. In other situations, a business may add a dollar to a night’s lodging fee or a dollar to the price of a lovely dinner. Volunteers are needed to engage local businesses in this program.
Junior Steward Program: 2 hrs/wk during the summer
Through a variety of outdoor activities, such as plant and animal identification and nature walks, this educational program introduces Summit County youth to open space conservation and stewardship. Volunteers are needed to assist staff members with these activities.
Environmental Film Festival: 5hrs/mo over 3 mo, plus more at the event
Each year, the Summit Land Conservancy hosts an environmental film festival that aims to increase public awareness of environmental issues. Volunteers are needed to organize, promote and staff this event, including organizing the environmental fair, PR, and flyers.
Summer Tabling Events: Time commitments vary.
The Summit Land Conservancy participates in many of Park City’s summer events, including the Park Silly Market and the Kimball Arts Festival. Volunteers are needed to staff our table, speak with people about our work and the value of protecting open space, and hand out educational materials.
Office Help: 1hr+/wk
There are always opportunities to help in our office. Jobs include database work, writing thank you notes, clippings, etc.
Project Volunteers
Project volunteers assist with the Summit Land Conservancy’s one-time events and projects.
Witness Rewrite: 6 mo
In 1998, the Summit Land Conservancy edited the book Park City Witness, a compilation of stories and artwork created by Park City residents in honor of their favorite local open space. We are interested in either reissuing Witness or possibly producing Witness II. We need a person to spearhead this project, possibly retyping, editing, and seeing to the publication.
Note cards or Calendar
Individuals with an interest in photography and/or graphic design are needed to create a set of note cards or a calendar featuring Summit Land Conservancy properties.
National Trails Day and Open Space Celebration: 5 hrs over 2 mo
The Summit Land Conservancy is participating in Park City’s June 6th trails and open space day. Volunteers are needed to promote this event and staff the day’s activities.
Breakfast Table Captains: 10 hrs over 3 mo
The Conservation Breakfast is the Summit Land Conservancy’s largest community fundraiser. Table Captains are the key to the success of the event. Captains invite their friends and contacts to the breakfast, insuring a good turnout. They help collect pledge cards when the breakfast is over.
